About
Dr Maria Montessori developed an education philosophy based on scientific observation. Using her studies, she created materials and techniques that would promote a natural progression of learning.
From my very first introduction to the Montessori philosophy of education, as a playgroup Mum, it just made sense to me. Respect for the child, creating spaces for independence, meeting the child where they are at in their development, encouraging them to foster a lifelong love of learning. Montessori materials are like the support crew on that learning journey.
I personally love the design, the intent, the isolation of a skill, the progression of skills, the non verbal cues included in the design/mechanics of a material and the beautiful way in which they are presented. I have seen first hand how these materials appeal to a child, in my own home and whilst working as a Montessori Assistant. I know how these materials and the Montessori philosophy have helped my own children in their development. I hope they will be useful to you too.
